Super simple metroidvania based on the myths of Daedalus and his inventions. Made for the Ludum Dare #36 48h game jam.


Ludum Dare is the classic 48h game jam competition. The theme for #36 was “Ancient Technology”. My first usable idea was a Flappy Bird clone with Icarus, but that lasted less than a second before i shamed myself into discarding it. That line of thought did lead me to Daedalus, however, and recalling the myths recounted by Dael Kingsmill gave me the idea of making a metroidvania-style game based on his various inventions.

The content i planned is all there, but not the polish. I lost a lot of time due to it being my first time using Tiled with Unity, and me doing zero preparation before the jam; the gameplay is pretty rough as a result, but i tried to make the glitches help the gameplay instead of hindering it. The WebGL build is also significantly slower than the editor version, but i don’t think it’s a performance issue; not sure what’s up with that.

The LD competition requires participants to create every single asset in the game. All artwork was made in Aseprite, imported via TexturePacker; music was generated in cgMusic, edited in Audition; levels were made in Tiled, imported via Tiled2Unity.
