Cruncher Pat is the pilot of Minimality, a spaceship built for subterfuge missions with the special ability to shrink at will. However, something goes horribly wrong and the craft ends up in a lane of perilous obstacles. Unable to turn Minimality around, Pat must use the unarmed vessel’s ability to survive!
Ludum Dare is a 48-hour game-making competition where you’re required to create everything in the game during those 48 hours. I had intended to participate in the competition, and indeed made the game under 48 hours, but i overlooked the fact that everything had to be created by myself, being accustomed to using creative commons assets in other game jams. Fortunately, Ludum Dare also has a 72-hour jam with loose rules where my game could be applied into. Next time i’ll know!
The theme for the jam was “Minimalism” and kept my mind blank for a long while. I ended up interpreting the theme very loosely and came up with a mechanic where you shrunk your character. A sidescroller shooter felt like an interesting home for the mechanic, so Minimality was born.
